🔋 Battery Warranty Information

Battery Empire – Warranty, Testing & Fault Assessment

At Battery Empire, we stand behind the products we sell.
However, most batteries returned as “faulty” are not defective — they are discharged, incorrectly used, or affected by vehicle or accessory issues.

This page explains how battery warranties work, how we assess batteries, and what qualifies as a warranty claim before testing proceeds.

Please read this information carefully prior to lodging a warranty claim.

⚠️ Important: Flat Does NOT Mean Faulty

A battery being flat does not indicate a manufacturing fault.

Batteries commonly become discharged due to:

  • Short or infrequent driving
  • Parasitic current draw
  • Accessories running while parked
  • Charging system faults
  • Vehicles sitting unused
  • Incorrect battery selection for the application

These conditions are not covered under warranty.

👁️ Magic Eye Indicator – What It Actually Means

Many automotive batteries include a built-in charge indicator (“magic eye”).
This indicator shows state of charge only, not battery health.

Indicator colours explained:

  • Black / Dark
    • Battery is discharged
    • This is not a warranty fault
  • 🟢 Green
    • Battery is charged
    • If the vehicle will not start, this may indicate an internal fault and further testing is required

Important:
A black eye means the battery needs charging — not replacing.

What Is Covered Under Warranty?

A battery may qualify for warranty replacement if, after being fully charged, it:

  • Fails a capacity or load test (Must be green indicator before test - no exceptions)
  • Shows a green indicator but cannot deliver starting power
  • Is within the manufacturer’s warranty period

All warranty decisions are based on test results, not voltage alone.

What Is NOT Covered Under Warranty?

The following are not manufacturing defects and are not covered:

  • Battery is flat or discharged
  • Battery requires recharging only
  • Vehicle charging system faults
  • Parasitic drain or accessory draw
  • Infrequent use or short trips
  • Incorrect battery selection
  • Battery left unused or stored flat
  • External damage, misuse, or modification

🧪 How Battery Empire Tests Warranty Claims

All batteries submitted for warranty assessment follow this process:

  1. Battery is fully charged
  2. Battery is rested
  3. Battery is load and/or capacity tested
  4. Results determine warranty outcome

A battery must be fully charged before warranty testing.
Testing a discharged battery does not indicate a fault.

🔌 Charging & Usage – Common Causes of Flat Batteries

Modern vehicles place higher demands on batteries than ever before.

Common contributors to discharge include:

  • Stop-start systems
  • Modern electronics remaining active when parked
  • Short trips that do not recharge the battery
  • Aftermarket accessories (fridges, inverters, lights, winches)
  • Vehicles parked for extended periods

For these applications, regular charging or a maintenance charger is strongly recommended.

💲 Testing & Recharge Fees

Batteries found to be:

  • Discharged
  • Serviceable
  • Not faulty

may incur a testing and/or recharge fee.

This covers time, labour, and equipment required to properly assess the battery.

📍 Lodging a Warranty Claim

If you believe your battery may be faulty after reviewing the information above:

  • Bring the battery to Battery Empire for testing
  • Proof of purchase is required
  • Battery must be presented in a clean, testable condition

All warranty assessments are performed in line with manufacturer guidelines.
